Venue Report

Please remember your ROD LICENCE!

On the Boston Drains fishing has been better but most stretches are still higher and more coloured than normal levels. When it has been better, small fish are making up nets to 10lb.

The River Witham has been hit by rain and snow water. It has had lots of extra water in it at times. Nobody has been out to report anything this week but as it fines down should fish well.

The River Ancholme has been better with a few roach showing, although the exra cold water from the thaw has knocked things on the head. When the river is running at a reasonable pace, the Cakemills and Leisure Centre are providing good bags of roach and odd bream.

Pond Round Up

Most ponds have suffered with the cold temperatures, snow thawing and freezing winds. The water temperaures have dropped as a result.
Oaks fishery at Sessay has been quite this week.
Pasture House at Barton has been better since the ice melted. Click the link and go to the latest news page for day to day updates.
Canal Lake : Small fish showing to maggot and pinkie in nets to 10lb.
The Neck : Maggot and worm scoring for small fish.
The Main Lake :Small fish on maggot, but odd bream showing all over to corm or white shellfish boilie. Nets to 40lb taken this week.
Tackle and Bait shop now open and now also selling sea baits. For up to date details contact Will or Chris on 01652 636369.
Messingham Sands near Scunthorpe is fishing in parts as the weather gets better.
Hallcroft at Retford has been better this week.
Woodland Lakes at Thirsk, has been fishing well in odd pegs.
Moon Lakes at Tattershall have been better this week.
Lindholme Lakes at Doncaster has seen some action. For more information http://www.lindholmelakes.co.uk
Hayfield Lakes at Doncaster has seen odd pegs fishing well this week
Caistor Fisheries: As we are all aware the weather has not been very favourable for fishing but for some of those hardy enough to try the rewards have been great. All ponds are high with good colour in all but D but this was the last to thaw with over 9" of ice at one stage. Plant growth has died back some cover is at a minimum.
Pond A
Whilst maintanance work is being carried out around pegs 4 and 5 this does not seem to have affected the fishing. Some good nets of Roach and Rudd coming from pegs 1 and 2 to pole fished worm tails. Plenty of small Perch to maggot and worm. Distinct lack of Carp.
Pond B
Night fishing has accounted for a few good Chub and Bream but the Carp have been elusive through the night. Different story for day ticket anglers. Stu Hewson of Barnetby had a good mixed bag to about 30lb on pole fished 4mm natural pellet, feeding micro pellet. Peg 1. Best fish of the week was a joint issue with Stuart Colebrook from Rothwell - 14 years old - caught a Common of 15lb on single hi-viz boilie. Stuart has only just begun fishing and is being coached by his mate George Emms 17 years old also from Rothwell. George also had a 15lb Common caught on light gear with 3 maggots on a size 12 hook with a cage feeder of groundbait and maggots. Fishing to the near side of the island in the margins. George attends Caistor Grammar 6th form and has been fishing for a while, he told me that he intends to take up match fishing in the near future as well as showing Stuart the ropes.
Pond C
For those who have tried this pond they have found the going very hard in deed. With just a few skimmers and Ide to show for their endevours. Odd report of Barbel bites but none to the net.
Pond D
Has been fished by 2 rods only since the thaw. One blanked and the other had a dozen or so fish on maggot and small red pinkies on the pole.

Remember, if you've been out, let us know how you got on. It's the only way we can keep you informed of what is happening.
