How to elasticate a pole tip.

Step 1.

The items you will require. A bush ( external is best ), elastic, diamond eye threader, bung, hacksaw and scissors

items required

cutting the tip

Step 2.

Carefully measure where you think the bush will fit the pole and saw the tip(get an adult to do this). Take care not to rush and get a clean edge. Also, if you are not quite sure, take a little off at a time. It's easier to take a bit off than add it on!

Step 3.

Once you have reached the correct point, slide the bush onto the tip.

Step 4.

Once on, this is how the bush should look. The fit should be tight.

Step 5.

Take the bung and see how much needs to be cut. Remember it goes up the inside of your pole so leave enough room for the next section to be slid in.

Step 6.

Once measured, cut the bung to suit.( get an adult to do this)

Step 7.

Next take the diamond eye threader and put your elastic through the eye end.

Step 8.

Once on, this is how the elastic should look connected to the threader.

Step 9.

Next take the diamond eye threader and pass it through your pole sections, normally the top 2 or 3.

Pull the threader & elastic through

Step 10.

Once through, pull until the elastic is through the required number of sections.

Step 11.

Next take the elastic and secure it to the bung. The bungs with a built in tensioner are best as you can easily alter the elastics tension as required.

attatch the elastic to the bung and tension

pull the elastic to see if it will retract.

Step 12.

Once you're happy with the tension, pull out the elastic to see if it will retract back into the pole.

Step 13.

If the tension is OK, this is how the elastic should look once it has retracted.

Now you are ready to fish. If you fish a variety of venues or for a variety of fish you will require several strenghts of elastic to cover each situation. Carp require strong elastics and poles, where as roach and bream require a lighter set up. On venues that hold and number of species, you have to opt for a mid range set up to cover most situations.
